Irene Baqué is a documentary filmmaker who works in Barcelona and London. Her films tell stories of identity, social issues and resistance, always looking around the topic of women, with an observational and cinema verité style. She has worked for six years at The Guardian producing short documentaries on gender issues in countries such as El Salvador, Bangladesh, Philippines or Ethiopia, exposing local stories to an international audience.
In 2018 Sheffield Doc Festival held a retrospective of her work at The Guardian. She won Best Short Film at One World Media Awards (2015) for her film on abortion in El Salvador; finalist in the IMPACT VIDEO category of the SIMA Awards for “Filipino women smashing the catholic taboos”.
