Érica Sarmet is a Brazilian queer writer, director and researcher based in São Paulo. They wrote and directed the short films Latifúndio (2017) and A Wild Patience Has Taken Me Here (2021) and was researcher and script assistant to Medusa (Anita Rocha da Silveira, Cannes’ Director’s Fortnight 2021). Their company Excesso Filmes prepares to shoot in 2022 Sarmet’s next short, the essayistic documentary Vollúpya, the trans witches thriller If I’m Here Is By Mystery written by Sarmet and directed by Clarissa Ribeiro, as well as the development of their first feature, the ecohorror Heaven Beneath Entrails. They’re also PhD Candidate in Film Studies at University of São Paulo and curator of feminist film club Quase Catálogo.
